Have you ever asked yourself what it would take to bring about the Spiritual transformation of our communities? What would it look like if Holy Spirit exploded on the scenes of our churches, educational institutions, Government offices, families, and streets? How would life in our nation be different tomorrow if today we encountered the manifest presence of Almighty God? As a student of Revival and Awakening, I can say that my heart truly desires to see such a move of God – one that literally escalates to community transformation. The actions of Holy Spirit within the context of human history has accomplished this impossibility many times. However, even with that knowledge I still sometimes find myself fighting the notion that would say our current culture is so far from this Kingdom reality that I could miss seeing the transformation of communities in my lifetime. Though the fight is real, my declaration of faith will continue to be that the Church is on the rise! God is moving! The revelation of Him is creating an atmosphere in this nation that will shift us from our current course and bring us into a place of expressing Jesus in the earth once again!
So, what does it take to bring this type of Kingdom reality into our cities? I believe that there are several things we can do as a church and individuals to move in that direction; but there is one thing that is more important than anything else. So important is this One thing, that if we were to just focus on it, the transformation could come sooner than later. What is that One thing? Jesus! That’s right! If we would pursue the revelation of Him and that revelation comes, it would be a game changer. That is exactly what happened in the life of Saul as he traveled on the road to Damascus. We read about this revelation encounter in Acts 9:
5 And he (Saul) said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” 6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
After this encounter, Saul spends three days before the Lord’s presence in prayer. It was this beginning revelation that fueled the fires of personal revival within Saul and became the overflow of revival that transformed whole cities and cultures! It was more than just a simple prayer for Saul and it will be more than just a prayer for us as well. It will be more than attending a good church service or conference. It will be more than participating in benevolent actions that help the hurting, the broken, and down trodden. While these are all good and can lead to a personal revelation of Jesus, never allow anything to replace this One thing, Jesus. He alone is worthy and if transformation is to happen, it must be because of that fact and that fact alone. What will Holy Spirit not do through a people who live, move, and breathe from their revelation of Jesus?
